PLAY CONCEPT
The novel from 100 years ago in a new, futuristic rendition.
W PUSTYNI & W PUSZCZY3 – a fresh conceptual adaptation of the classic novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz. Sienkiewicz's novel is reimagined within the realities of show business, as a third consecutive film adaptation is set to be produced, following the movies from 1973 and 2001. With each chapter, the setting and action progressively diverge further from the original work by Sienkiewicz.
THE PROJECT
The illustration set was created as the key visual concept for the four central chapters of the theatrical production. The collage format allowed for the fusion of multiple key themes that characterized each of these chapters. The abstract elements of set design, costumes, and the script had to resonate powerfully and find their artistic expression.
The illustrations were then transformed into animations, incorporating motion assets that complemented the collage formula. These animations were displayed before each chapter and in the background during scene transitions. The introduction featured a "reconstructed" portrait of Henryk Sienkiewicz. In the first chapter, PORT SAID, the visuals transport the audience to an idyllic African landscape, reflecting the novel’s setting. The second chapter, MARS, takes viewers into cosmic realms, marking the moment when the classic story takes an unpredictable turn. The third and fourth chapters, CANAL and LAGOON, unfold in ominous watery landscapes inhabited by fantastical creatures. In the outro, the same portrait of the author appears in negative space, summarizing the twisted journey the play’s characters undergo while rediscovering the classic novel.
The final stage of production focused on local promotion and online distribution. We prepared a series of posters, theatrical pamphlets, and brochures, culminating in social media campaigns
